Going Beyond the Obvious Part 2

What we see and hear always has volumes of meaning.

 PART 2

When receiving information, it is advantageous to listen with a third ear, look with a third eye and always consider the source from which the information is coming. I know it sounds a bit odd and no I am not suggesting anything weird. Nonetheless, listening with the third ear means first acknowledging clearly what is stated. But don’t stop there. Next, discern the hidden message or intent that is really being proclaimed. Listen critically. Play the devil’s advocate. Sometimes messages are presented with a subtle whisper as such and not as a boisterous edict. It’s like looking at the set for the décor of a stage play. If our focus is only on the actors, one might miss the symbolism displayed on the backdrop and how it adds meaning to theme of the play.

Looking with a third eye means reading between the lines. The information between the lines is not an overt but subliminal message. The real purpose of the deliverer’s message may be disguised—draped in popular music with singing celebrities we are fond of. Unknowingly our agreement with the appealing beats and rhythms cause us to subconsciously agree with the intent of the message. Embedded codes send subliminal messages to our brains to arouse misplaced feelings of desire. Too often we are enticed and drawn in by sexual innuendos, symbols, colors, and imposed ideas about cultural norms due to lack of appropriate awareness.

Finally, consider the source. News is not just about the facts anymore and it has not been that way for quite some time. Most news broadcasts have political agendas. Further evening newscasters do too much unprofessional bantering as a means to entertain or boost ratings. Something is wrong when pop culture and crisis in global affairs are both front page news. Know for certain there is a definite reason for it all.

It is important to listen with a third ear, look with a third eye and always consider the source. Responding to information in this manner places us on the road of consciousness. Too many African Americans are anesthetized to the point that we are unaware of the reality of what is really going on around us. We have become inoculated with the venom of untruth. Ever since we came to this country as slaves in 1619 the agenda of the white men for whom the constitution was written has been to devalue, underestimate and marginalize people who were not like them. This includes Native Americans, Caucasian   women and minority groups. The Black Codes of 1865, the movie Birth of Nation in 1915, the Tarzan Series of 1966 are just a few early examples of the means by which propaganda was spread to the masses.  Malcolm X said “The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”

Authentic thoughts are thoughts that are genuine and sincerely expressed. Authentic thoughts reverberate with other authentic individuals so they have an irresistible urge to ponder and or respectfully respond from their own unique perspective.

Express your thoughts and share your authentic truth.

In love and peace,
