Going Beyond the Obvious Part 3

ARE WE TOO DRINKING THE KOOL-AID? Jim Jones mass suicide 1978

We have been socially conditioned to accept degrading perspectives about Black people in media. In this society, being Caucasians means superiority and being a Black or Brown person means inferiority. In order to rise and overcome this restraining social condition, we must become literate so we understand how to rightly navigate these murky waters of deception. If you already haven’t, I implore you to search within to determine your social responsibility.

I understand we feel excited and proud to see reflections of ourselves on television and on the big screen but at what cost???? Are we part of the ratings count for programming for ratchet, degrading shows and shows that promote white supremacy? We have a right to free speech but should it be at the cost of our integrity? Does it mean that we personally should dishonor our own community? What actually does it mean to be an adult? Are there limits or boundaries for our behavior? Where should our allegiance lie?

If you do the research for the word program you’ll find the original purpose of the program to program the mind–mind control. How are we allowing ourselves to be programmed? How many of the choices that we make are influenced by media images. How many of our ideas are seeds blossomed from something we heard or saw in the media? Often we are not even aware because we are sublimally influenced.

Here’s another very interesting clip!!!!

The television is designed to tell lies to our vision. Courtney Garcia wrote in The Grio, on September 27, 2013 that African-Americans watch more television than any other group of people. http://thegrio.com/2013/09/27/nielsen-report-confirms-blacks-watch-more-tv-than-any-other-group/. That means one can safely conclude, we are also the ones being bamboozled, hoodwinked and swindled by all the marketing gimmicks most often. Garcia reports “African Americans have 1 trillion dollars of buying power in this country while the African-American household earns less than market average, their annual retail spending accounts for 87 percent of total market retail spending.” Advertisers don’t even spend additional money to entice us to watch. Is our greater presence on television and in the movies finally more opportunities for our community or a power play by the establishment as a means to an end? They know we are already watching. Advertisers are laughing all the way to the bank while we are being hypnotized by the television. It’s not just entertainment! Master Teacher Anthony Browder presents a thought-provoking lecture well worth listening to.

Family, let’s rise from our slumber! If you have already risen– rise higher! We are a powerful, creative, and innovative people. Let’s use our gifts, talents and resources to better our own communities. Vampires are high jacking our culture. In the words of film maker Spike Lee it’s time for us to WAKE UP! Let’s gain an awareness of ourselves, our actions, our surroundings and our social responsibility.

My authentic truth:

We must be courageous enough to make socially responsible decisions about what we see and hear and then be willing to stand in our own truth. The truth is the truth if no one believes it and a lie is still a lie even if everyone believes it. If we must interact with media, let’s be very selective, do so critically and seek out forms of entertainment than add to our lives in a positive way.

 In love and peace,

Dr. Free
