Imani: Faith

Imani: Faith To believe with all of our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

kwanzaa5As a people in many ways it is obvious that we are divided. The reasons for this division seem endless. However, the result is still the same nothing is gained. Many of the so called conscious people in our community who are in the forefront seem to be at odds with one another. I hear about Youtube arguments via posts all the time. Can we please get out of our feelings and focus on what’s really important? Let’s grow up as a people and realize the same issues that we are angry about with other people are similar to circumstances we may have actually been guilty about in our lives. No one guiltless. We all for short at some time. Its just part of the human existence. Nitpicking wastes time and energy and causes us to major in the minors.

Let’s learn a lesson from our oppressor. It can be very apparent that they do not like each other but they are still willing to come together to accomplish goals to maintain positions of power and keep us in check. Ask the Republican and Democratic parties about that one.

In the words of my brother, “can we learn to forgive each other a little more gracefully“??? Too often we are more open to forgive and believe someone who does not look like us before we forgive a member of our own African-American family. Beloved, that is not who we are as a people!

Let 2017 be a year for personal healing. When we heal individually it will impact the whole African family in a positive way.  The greatest enemy is the enemy within. There’s no  way we can over come obstacles outside of ourselves when we are not dealing with our own personal issues. Our fight can only be won when we unite with righteous intentions and actions.

Maulana Karenga said it best. Let’s believe with all of our heart in our people, our parents, our teachers, and our leaders and the righteousness and victory of our struggle.

I say to you today, “If WE don’t believe in ourselves and our people who will?

In peace and love,
